55 Word Stories

The following stories were written by high school students in class with a time limit of 10 minutes. The goal was to create an interesting story with a beginning, middle, and end in only 55 words, no more or less. The each author's name is a pseudonym (quite obviously in some cases).

Basketball used to be my favorite sport when I was growing up, but now I have developed a certain disliking toward it. As I have grown up, I noticed that there are girls on my team who do not like me and try to hurt me during practice. The coaches never say anything about it.

She opens her eyes and sees the morning light, the light that is reflecting opportunity. She has been striving for that opportunity for a long time, but has never grasped it. The day passes and she still hasn't made the change she wanted, and that’s because she’s afraid of what might come after her decisions.

“Ohhhh Ahhhh” said the people below, as the fireworks popped, lighting up the sky. The fireworks went on for hours. The people never got tired of watching them. They enjoyed it quite a lot, but all of a sudden the fireworks stopped. The sky was dull and so were the faces of the people below.

The cabin was my favorite place to be in the winter time. My grandpa Charlie would always cook us a steak from a butchered steer. Temperatures up there got down to 45 below, But I can't complain about it because that's just how life goes here. I can’t wait to go next winter and stay.

If we go back to the monkey that stole the boonie cap, we can see that he has stolen a few more items. One being another pair of sunglasses, and another being a phone case somehow… The last thing he also stole was a small bag from a zoo worker. This monkey is a menace.

Shelly and Sheldon were siblings. They were just small turtles swimming in the vast ocean and were trying to find the coral reef. They met with another turtle who swam with them to find the coral reef. Once they found it they explored and made friends with other turtles. They had a happy life together.

The angelfish that always swam alone had never stopped swimming because she was looking for a family. So she swam from coral reef to coral reef. Each one was so much more different than the last. All the colors were vibrant, and they seemed to shout at her. Then she realized she was happy alone.
